The Public Humanities Design Studio is composed of spaces for research collaboration, humanities content development, capacity building and training, access to specialized equipment, with an adjacent room managed by IT, the WAVE, for research visualization and display. Given that many humanities faculty and graduate students do not have lab space on campus, this space is intended to offer them a core area for research collaboration where they can pursue projects that either requires workspace for a team and access to specialized equipment or software. The space may also be used by humanities faculty and graduate students collaborating with faculty in other schools, from across the UC system, or with community members and will embrace the full range of ways in which they may seek to pursue projects, including but not limited to:
- Exhibitions of artworks and artifacts
- Development of printed materials and archives
- Staged performances
- Digital collections, tools, and platforms
- Audio and video works
