Interdisciplinary Humanities Course Development Grant

AY 2020-2021

Applications are reviewed as they arrive on a rolling basis.

The application will close: May 1, 2021

The goal of this project is to support graduate seminars in offering curricula and signature assignments focused on community-engaged theories, methods, and approaches, which will expand and sustain training opportunities. Initially, a special section of IH 206: Humanities Methods was offered in this area. This next iteration looks to expand the course-taking opportunities, with mini-grant support for course re-development.

This opportunity will offer support for faculty to revise or implement new courses and materials focused on qualitative research design and methodologies, with transformative outcomes. Proposals can focus on assigned or future courses in IH, with the development of readings, signature assignments, and course design that is community-engaged.

For funded projects, faculty will be invited to participate in the summer institute and associated workshop series during the academic year to develop these signature assignments and re-design courses. The timeline for project development, then, is January 2021 - August 2021.

Course development awards will be $1000 each (three awarded annually), for either an assigned or previously taught course with an emphasis on re-design and a proposal.

Proposals would provide a brief description of the standard course, how community-engaged research activity and resources will be integrated into the design, with key pedagogical topics to explore. Noted should be development goals and what kind of support and input would be most impactful. Proposals should be 250 - 500 words in length, with the option to include an appendix for a standard course description or example syllabus.
